Happy New Year!

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a relaxing break with some quality family time. We can definitely look back on 2016 as one for the ages - wow, what a crazy year. It will certainly be interesting to see how 2017 unfolds.

We are beginning our study of the Civil Rights Movement with a inquiry of the Montgomery Bus Boycott. For those of you who did not finish Round 1 of the activity and complete the claim for Document A, please do so tonight so that you are ready to move on to Document B tomorrow. Remember that your claim must include each component of R.A.C.E.

Hey there, I hope you all had a great weekend. The first thing you need to do is log on to the Timberland Regional Library (osd+ your username, PIN = your birth month and day). With your partner, you need to choose an article from one of the databases Mrs. White showed you on Friday and complete the RACE template that you've already made a copy of. 

Then, please check out the following links on the DAPL v Standing Rock Sioux. The first one was published by the Washington Post on Friday, December 2 and has an article along with 7 short videos (you will need headphones/ear buds) showing different perspectives of the pipeline and the protest. The second link is an article put out by The Army Corps of Engineers on Sunday, December 5.

It's Been a While

Sorry my posts have been few and far between in the last several weeks. Lots going on. Just wanted to remind social studies students to finish the reading and annotating of the four sources on slavery. The "Slavery Readings Chart" should be completed as well. We will write our conclusions about slavery tomorrow in class, and to do so you MUST have the reading, annotating, and chart completed!

Homework - Evaluating Sources

Remember that you need to complete the first three questions of the Evaluating Sources activity. Please remember to include which source is more trustworthy, why that source is more trustworthy, and also why the other source isn't as trustworthy as the one you chose.

Tomorrow we will finish #4 - #6 in class. We will then begin to look at motives for European exploration of the New World. You will learn the RACE acronym and how we will use it to answer historical questions.

Snapshot Autobiography - Homework Reminder

Greetings!
I just wanted to send out a quick reminder about your homework for the Snapshot Autobiography project. You are to write about four important events that have shaped you as a person. One of those stories will be the story of your birth. You may get some help on this one from your parents or other friends or family members that have details about your birth. The other three events are your choice, however you will be interviewing another person about one of these events, so make sure to pick at least one event that someone else knows about.

Do not interview someone else until you have written your story about that event. The homework tonight is to complete a rough draft version of as many of the four stories as possible. The final product (a 6-panel pamphlet of your life) is due on Friday, October 7. You will be given time in class over the next several days to complete this project, but you should also spend at least 20 minutes each night on this project.

As always the quality of your final product is extremely important.
