Grading Policy

My Social Studies class grade will be based on three categories.  Effort, Behavior, and Performance.
  • Effort: Daily assignments, notes, and homework will fall under this category. The score will also reflect work turned in on time.
  • Behavior:  This score is based on the student's behavior during the class period.  It will be affected by the number of Warnings, Minor Disciplines, and Major Disciplines a student receives.
  • Performance:  This will include daily assignments, quizzes, tests, socratic seminars, and research projects the student has during class.
Performance scores will make up 100% of the students "actual" grade in this class.
Effort and Behavior will supply a grade but it will not affect the students overall score.
Effort and Behavior scores are a good indicator on why the student has a "good" or "poor" grade.

While daily assignments, notes, and homework do not affect the students overall score, all assignments, notes, and homework are required to be completed.  If a student has any missing work they will be required to complete the work during MMS time.

All Effort, Behavior, and Performance grades are based on the 4 point system.
4 = "A"- This will be given for all scores between 90%-100%
3 = "B"- This will be given for all scores between 80%-89%
2 = "C"- This will be given for all scores between 70%-79%
1 = "D"- This will be given for all scores between 60%-69%
NC = This will be given for all scores below 60%
Skyward makes it difficult to translate scores based on this system.  The percents that are shown are not what should be focused on.  Look at the letter grade.  Students should strive to maintain scores for 3 and 4.  3's indicate a good understanding of the concepts.  4's demonstrate movement towards mastery.  2's indicate basic understanding and 1's show that the student needs a lot more practice.

Research Projects:  All research projects will be graded using rubrics.  A rubric gives criteria for each project and indicates what must be accomplished in order to receive certain scores.
